Deutsche Börse celebrates 15 years of SDAX

Deutsche Börse today announced the SDAX Index is celebrating its 15. anniversary as Germany’s leading small-cap index on 21 June 2014. On Monday, 23 June 2014, this anniversary will be celebrated on the floor of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Susanne Zeidler from SDAX founding member Deutsche Beteiligungsgesellschaft AG will participate in a special bell-ringing ceremony with Executive Board Member Hauke Stars, responsible for the Information Technology and Market Data + Services division of Deutsche Börse.

“The DAX Indices are an important piece of the MD+S success story. Over the last 15 years, the index business has grown significantly in terms of introducing innovative index concepts, as well as acceptance by the global financial community. Today, the SDAX along with the other DAX flagship indices are recognized as the go-to barometers for the German economy,” said Hauke Stars.

The SDAX Index measures 50 stocks that have been admitted to the Prime Standard segment of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange that rank directly below the MDAX shares in terms of market capitalization and trading volume.

“SDAX has served as a reliable gauge of Germany’s small-cap segment since 1999. From the beginning we have strived to create indices that are objective, transparent and attractive to market participants seeking interesting investment themes. Our rules-based approach has contributed to the success of our indices,” said Hartmut Graf, chief executive officer, STOXX Limited. STOXX Ltd. is the marketing agent for the indices of Deutsche Börse AG and SIX, including the DAX and SMI indices.
There were initially 100 companies in the SDAX when it launched on 21 June 1999. The number of components was reduced to 50 stocks in 2002. Of the original companies, only Deutsche Beteiligungs AG has remained in the index for all 15 years. The newest members of SDAX are Surteco AG and Capital Stage AG, which joined the index on 24 March 2014. Effective 23 June 2014, Hornbach Baumarkt and Borussia Dortmund will replace König & Bauer AG and Air Berlin in the index.
The SDAX’s all-time high of 7515.38 occurred on 2 June 2014. Its highest closest level occurred three trading days later on 5 June 2014 with a value of 7481.17.

The overall DAX index family comprises approximately 3.700 indices and measures innovative investment themes such as minimum variance, risk control and short and leveraged concepts.
